An Evening of Music with Glee: Finn and Rachel
Kristin: Another thing in the season finale that the fans are really excited about...a little couple everyone has been waiting for...Finn...Rachel. Was anyone excited to see them get together?
-audience breaks out into wild applause-
Kristin: Finchel.
Cory: Finchel.
Kristin: It sounds so delicious. Don't you just want to eat it?
Cory: Like a pastry.
Kristin: Yes!
Cory: A Finchel.
Kristin: You should actually sell those because I would buy one, Cory. We've heard that they will be together this season. Ryan...Lea...Cory? Can you just talk about the pairing of Finn and Rachel? How you're feeling about them now and are you two excited to play a happy couple?
Lea: You better say you're excited.
Cory: Yes. Absolutely.
Lea: He's really excited. I'm really excited. I think it's so great. I think it's going to be really interesting to see what Rachel is like in a relationship, as someone's girlfriend. But...I don't know...Ryan...how long will you make this one last? (laughing)
Ryan Murphy: Well, I think, sort of the joy in the show is, and that's one of my favorite parts about it is those two. They're sort of so unlikely and I like that they're both sort of the leaders of the club. And I'm really interested to see how they deal with... it's almost like a metaphor for the show business Glee club. But I'm sort of interested in how does a couple like that, when they lose, do they fight about it? Does that bring them closer? Does that make them hate each other? Does it make them love each other? I'm interested in that idea of a couple withstanding a lot of things over the course of the season. And I do think that people really like Lea and Cory together and I'm just really interested. I mean, I don't... Brad, you can jump right in. I'm really interested in that idea.
Brad Falchuk: I think everybody loves Rachel and I think she's young and she's always pursued things. She's someone who's- she's said it herself "wants things too badly." Well, what happens when someone who wants things too badly gets things? And how do they handle that? And what kind of growing up do they have to do to have something as opposed to want something? I think she's really good at pursuing and so I'm really interested in sort of that part of it. And also, in just sort of Finn having someone he's in a relationship with who's so uniquely challenging.
Kristin: That's what you're hoping to put on your gravestone...your tombstone, right? Uniquely challenging. Brad, you once said you thought they were the core couple of the show. Do you still stand by that?
Brad Falchuk: I think so. I think so. It's because it's the mix of those two worlds. You know, and that's always what we're trying to do is, sort of, you know, what's happening in the outside world and the people throwing slushies and the people getting slushied and what happens when those two worlds fall in love? You know, as opposed to just fighting each other. So I think we have to keep pushing that relationship and exploring it because they're a great metaphor and also, these two actors are so good we can sort of have them do just about anything and they're so endearing and fun to watch.
